MBABANE – Government has promised to speed up the process of issuing consent letters and other supporting documents for civil servants interested in contesting in the elections.

This was said by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairman Simanga Mamba, after registering for the elections. The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) was registering civil servants at the Ministry of Public Service premises yesterday. Mamba said as the CSC, they were encouraging civil servants to participate in the elections by voting as well as contesting. He said this year they would find ways to quickly process documents for the civil servants who would like to participate in the elections. Mamba then reminded civil servants to remain politically neutral. He said civil servants were reminded that they should provide government services to the public impartially. He said they should also remember that they were serving the government of the day. “Efficiency of the government service delivery relies on the civil servants,” he said. He said civil servants played a crucial role in the formation and running of government and that was evident by that most politicians were former civil servants.

The chairman also lauded the EBC for the seamless registration process and its efficiency. He encouraged the EBC to continue executing the national duty effectively until the end.
When sought for comment, EBC Communications Officers Mbonisi Bhembe said they would appreciate the speed in the issuance of consent letters and other documents for civil servants aspiring to venture into politics. Bhembe said these documents were required from a civil servant to be fully considered as a nominee. Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Public Service, Sipho Tsabedze, appreciated EBC for bringing the registration services closer to the civil servants. He encouraged the civil servants to register as it was their right to choose and influence their own government. He urged the civil servants to take advantage of the opportunity given to them by registering early and not waiting until the last minute, to avoid the long queues. He encouraged EBC to avail itself in places where there were many people.

Mamba and Tsabedze were joined by other civil servants, who took the opportunity and registered for the elections at the Ministry of Public Service boardroom. It is also worth noting that last week there was a registration at the Cabinet Offices, rendered by EBC to the cabinet ministers. Ministers who registered on the day included the Minister of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT), Princess Sikhanyiso, Minister of Finance Neal Rijkenberg, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Prince Simelane. Prince Simelane encouraged emaSwati to be careful not to vote for terrorists that would turn against the government inside the august House.
