BIG BEND - Sive Siyinqaba National Movement Chairperson Ngomuyayona Gamedze was booed at the celebration of Workers Day.

Gamedze, who represented his organisation at the celebration, which was hosted by TUCOSWA at Mayaluka Sports Ground, Big Bend, was among the leaders of political parties which are organised under the banner of the Political Party Assembly (PPA), who went on stage to deliver a message of solidarity. When he was given the microphone to deliver the message of solidarity, some of the attendees, in particular political party members, started singing a song which was titled; ‘Asiyi elukhetfweni’ (we are not going to elections). Others booed him and TUCOSWA 2nd Deputy Secretary General Sikelela Dlamini, who was one of the master of ceremonies (MCs), intervened by trying to calm them down and asked them to give Gamedze an ear.

However, his efforts seemed to have fallen on deaf ears as the political party members continued with their song and booed him. After seeing that they were not stopping, Gamedze started addressing the attendees, but in his address, he tackled the issue of being booed. He said what made them not to progress in the struggle as the mass democratic movement were such acts. He said they should learn to listen to each other. After that, Gamedze said he was there because he had read and understood the invitation letter from TUCOSWA. He said he was there to talk about the significance of the day - one where workers united and won their struggle.

Thereafter, he appealed for unity within and among the PPA, Multi-Stakeholder Forum (MSF) and all progressive movements. He said if they did not agree, that would be democracy and what needed to be done was that they should convince each other. Moreover, he said with time, they would turn from the animalism that they were purportedly becoming.
