MBABANE – Thantaza Silolo, Spokesperson of the Swaziland Liberation Movement (SWALIMO), says the unknown people driving foreign registered rental cars at night are terrorising emaSwati.

Silolo said government should act on these people because it was even hard to identify who they were. He highlighted that people who were commonly using the rented Toyota GD6 vehicles were police and soldiers. Silolo said as a movement, they were furious about the continued brutality towards citizens. He said besides the attack on one of their members Wonder Gama, they were aware of other emaSwati who were allegedly being tortured by the members of the armed forces.

Petition

He said as a movement, they were organising a march to the police headquarters to deliver a petition to raise a concern about the foreign registered cars used by the police, who were allegedly torturing the citizens. Silolo said the people driving the GD6 type of cars, especially at night, were unruly and making the lives of the citizens hard. He said if driving or walking at night was no longer allowed or if there was some sort of a curfew, government should make it clear that a state of emergency had been declared. On Thursday morning, there were reports of a People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) member, Brian Sihlongonyane, who alleged to have been assaulted by members of the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF). Sihlongonyane said he was attacked at night as well.
