GRADE V PUPIL COLLAPSES, DIES DURING SPORTS RACE

MANZINI - The community of Kwaluseni Central Primary School is distraught following the death of a Grade V pupil, who reportedly collapsed after participating in a race.

Teachers, pupils, as well as parents of children attending the primary school situated in Matsapha, have lost a future leader in the Grade V pupil, who is said to have collapsed on Tuesday and was later declared dead in a health facility. The identity of the pupil is known to this publication but will not be revealed because his family could not be reached for comment at the time of compiling this report. According to a source, the pupil died after participating in a race during a sporting activity at the school. The source disclosed that after the learner had collapsed, he was rushed to a health facility in Matsapha, where he was certified dead upon arrival.

Disheartened

The source said they were disheartened as a school after losing one of their own. The source also shared that it was a traumatic experience for learners and teachers alike. Meanwhile, it was disclosed to this publication that following the death of the learner, the school requested parents to make contributions for the family of the deceased pupil. The money would be sent to the family when the school’s representatives visit the family to pass their condolences.
The School Head teacher, Muzi Simelane, confirmed the death of a pupil at the school.

However, he politely declined to divulge further information relating to the matter, as he said the school had not officially informed the Manzini Regional Education Office about it. Simelane only stated that the school had visited the family of the child to report the demise of the child and offer their condolences. He said they would then report the matter to the office of the regional educatiob officer (REO) once they had returned from the family. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati said the police had not received a report of the matter. Likewise, Manzini REO Sizwe Kunene said the matter had not been reported to his office.
