PIGG’S PEAK – Drama unfolded yesterday when a man stormed the Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital and allegedly tried to kill his girlfriend he had earlier stabbed.

The incident is said to have occurred at around 11am. According to eyewitnesses, the woman was first stabbed close to the neck area. According to sources, though it could not be established what the bone of contention was, it is alleged that the man produced a knife and stabbed the woman in a red sedan they were travelling in while parked at the Total Filling Station near the bus rank. Sources claim that the woman managed to flee from the vehicle despite that she was bleeding profusely and asked for help from people around. “People saw that she had been stabbed and quickly attended to her. They asked a man to take her to the Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital. The man assisted and accompanied her to the hospital for treatment,” said a source. Security guards at the entrance of the health institution informed this publication that they saw a car driving at high speed entering the health institution.

Shocked

“We did not know what was going on at that time, but we were just shocked to see the car speeding into the hospital premises. We noticed that something was really wrong when the vehicle hit the wall of one of the hospital buildings,” said a security guard. He further narrated that they saw the man storm out of the car and run towards the woman who was at the time reporting to health officials stationed at the COVID-19 screening unit before she could proceed to the Out-patient Department (OPD) to be attended to by the doctor. “He seemed like he was trying to kill her because he forcefully grabbed her from the man who had accompanied her to the hospital. He threw her to the ground to then grab her by the neck in an attempt to strangulate her,” said the security guard. He highlighted that they quickly intervened and helped the already wounded woman. They grabbed the man and removed her from the injured woman. According to the witnesses, though they were not aware why the two were involved in the fight, the man seemed determined to kill her and did not really care if he was arrested.

Practitioners

Police are said to have arrived at the scene to detain the man whom they took to the nearby police station while medical practitioners attended to the injured woman. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the matter. “Yes, we are aware of the matter but we have not yet recorded a statement with the woman, as she cannot yet speak properly due to her injuries,” said Vilakati. Meanwhile, in May, over 40 gang members fought at the Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital, after a bar brawl, resulting in eight people being stabbed. The gang members invaded the hospital to continue the fight that started at a local bar. The fight proceeded to the streets and blood splatter was found on the pavements as well as inside the hospital where some of the gang members were stabbed.
