MATSAPHA  – Power Pack Africa has invested about E50 million to provide packaging solutions for businesses in Eswatini and is looking to double its staff complement.

This was revealed by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, when he officially launched the company from the Republic of China (Taiwan). The company produces preforms, bottles, caps and handles which can be applied on water, beverages, cooking oil and vinegar, among other things. The launch was held yesterday at the company premises at Matsapha Industrial Site. The enterprise currently supplies local entities like Eco Water, Emlembe Beverages, Waterman, Aha Water, Water Life and Highveld Water. The minister said the company was established in the country in 2021 and it came with a wealth of experience in this industry, spanning 20 years across the border in Mozambique and had expanded their operations into the Kingdom of Eswatini.

Project

He said this was a long journey as the project was initiated by his predecessor, the former Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Jabulani Mabuza, and he handed it over to him when he was appointed as the head of the ministry. The minister said as government, they were grateful for the confidence that investors displayed in setting up their businesses in the country. He said the Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA) diligently aided Power Pack Africa with the setting up of the business and in no time, this was achieved as they were there to witness the achievement during the launch.

Again, the minister said Power Pack Africa had put in place a long-term programme, especially with regard to localisation. He said currently, as part of their staff complement, there about 30 people who had been employed and the company looks to recruit as the business continues to thrive. In fact, he said they would have employed about 60 workers after the next two months. Thereafter, he assured the company that it would get full support from government, even if it wanted a biggest factory shell to expand its business.

Customers

Meanwhile, the Manager of Power Pack Africa, Alan Chang, said they were dedicated to providing packaging solution to their customers. He added that their goal was to not only supply the kingdom, but also the nearby countries in the region. “We are proud to say Eswatini is such a good country for business and we have a five-year programme for it, especially localisation. We hope that we can grow year after another and we believe we can provide more employment opportunities in return to Eswatini’s kindness and support,” the manager said.
He said packaging materials of Eswatini business had been dominated by foreign products for a long time, but now they were in the country to provide this service while empowering locals.
