MBABANE - The mother to Mbuso ‘Ncaza’ Nkosi, Dudu Gyweneth Nkosi, yesterday told the court that she was informed that the 21-seater minibus was a token of appreciation for his son.

Dudu (64), who was the last witness for the Crown, was closely guarded by plain-clothes female police officers and after giving her evidence, which lasted for less than an hour, she was escorted out of the court premises. During cross-examination, she almost lost her cool when Sipho Shongwe’s legal representative Advocate Laurence Hodes, kept asking her questions based on a statement that was written by a certain Aziz Langa. It was when the advocate had put it to her that Aziz never said he was sent by Shongwe to deliver the minibus, that Dudu napped.  In response, Dudu said: “Uphi yena loAziz?”  She would always complain of poor eyesight when given a document to read in court. Dudu was being led in evidence by Advocate Michael Hellens for the Crown.

In her evidence in chief, she  narrated to the court that in October 2018, in the afternoon, she was at home with her brother Sifiso when Ronny Ndlovu came driving a VW craft minibus (21-seater), with registration No. DZY 142 MP.  She said Ronny informed them that he collected the minibus from Aziz Langa of Orlando West. “I then demanded for the reasons why they decided to bring and park the minibus at my yard without the ownership papers. Ronny then gave me the contact numbers of Aziz and he was called by my brother,” submitted Dudu.  He told the court that Aziz came the following day to explain in detail about the minibus and where it came from.

Ownership

“Aziz upon arrival informed us that the minibus, VW craft, was given to him by someone who had been arrested in Eswatini, but he did not mention his name. He then promised to bring ownership documents from Mpumalanga,” alleged Dudu. According to the witness, Aziz left an affidavit, which he said they should produce in the event the police came to enquire about the minibus which was parked in her yard. Dudu said Aziz then left and they inspected the minibus inside. Inside the minibus, Dudu claimed that they discovered some documents or papers that contained information regarding a soccer team in Eswatini. It is alleged that the documents that were found inside the minibus had Matsapha United FC emblem and SwaziBank and Premier League of Eswatini on them. She said her son asked her to make copies of those documents, which now formed part of the exhibits.

Dudu yesterday handed over the documents to the court as part of her evidence. “After a week, Jabu from Zola, Soweto, came with his two friends who were unknown to me, to collect the minibus to an unknown place,” said the witness. It was further her submission that Jabu informed them that he had been sent to collect the minibus by ‘Ncaza’, who was arrested and detained at Johannesburg Correctional Service. She told the court that ‘Ncaza’ confirmed telephonically that they should release it to Jabu. “On December 12, 2019, I handed over the affidavit left by Aziz Langa when he came to deliver the minibus,” said Dudu.

During cross-examination, Dudu was informed that in his statement, Aziz never stated that he was sent by Shongwe to deliver the minibus. In response, Dudu maintained that when Aziz came to deliver the minibus, he told her that he had been sent by a liSwati who had been arrested. “My client is denying knowledge of the bus and that he sent someone to deliver it as a token of appreciation for your son. What can you say about that?” asked Advocate Hodes. In response, Dudu maintained her stance that Aziz informed her that he had been sent by a liSwati man who had been arrested in Eswatini.
