GIRL (10) SNATCHED WHILE PLAYING, LATER FOUND DEAD

MPOFU – What started off as playtime ended tragically for a 10-year-old girl, who was later found murdered.

*Julie, who is said to have lived around an area known as Luphikweni, was found murdered after she had been missing for less than 24 hours. Luphikweni is a place near Mpofu under Mhlangatane Inkhundla. It was gathered that she was playing with her friends, near her home when she was snatched by an unknown person. This happened at around 3pm on Saturday. The matter is said to have been reported to her family and some of the residents.

Acquaintance

According to a family acquaintance, several residents began to search for the girl as soon as they heard that she had disappeared. He said they searched for her, hoping that maybe she would return. “It was very unusual because she had been playing with her friends near her home,” he said. On the first day of the search, the residents are said to have failed to locate her but they continued searching. It was gathered that on the following day, which was a Sunday, her lifeless body was discovered along a riverbank. According to some of the residents, the person who had taken her may have also strangled her. Also, a short log was also forced into her mouth, as if to ensure that she was unable to breathe.

Naked

Further, it was gathered that she was naked when found, with her underwear pulled down. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the incident. In 2018, a five-year-old girl, Nkosinaye Dlamini vanished in a similar manner. She was snatched while playing with the friends around Matsamo. When she was found, her face appeared smashed and she was also found naked, along a riverbank. Her kidnapper was never caught by the police.
