MAFUTSENI - Imbali leader Princess Sakhizwe says maidens who did not make it to the event can still join the regiment ahead of the main day, scheduled for September 5, 2022.

Some maidens did not make it to the ceremony due to threats issued by unknown people. The decrease in the regiment was confirmed by some chiefs and tindvuna who had been assigned to look after the young girls during the course of the event. However, the threats had not been taken lightly as security personnel from the three security forces were deployed to protect the maidens. The princess said she was also hoping to meet the maidens at the second leg of the event, scheduled for September 9-11, 2022 at Mbangweni Royal Residence.

Encouraged

National Commissioner of Police William Tsitsibala Dlamini was on national radio where he encouraged maidens who couldn’t make it to the event to join the regiment. He assured the maidens that security would be provided during the course of the event. On another note, the princess urged emaSwati to preserve culture so they could pass it to the next generation. “We grew up and found culture, which was passed to our parents by our forefathers. So we find it important to preserve it for the next generation. We studied overseas, but we found it important to take a break so that we can participate in this event,” the princess said.

She shared that as a result of the teachings and encouragement from the elders, she started participating in the event at a young age. She stated that she went to Bhamusakhe before she joined the senior maidens at Mpisi Farm. She said Imbali had shown enthusiasm since they missed the event on two consecutive years due to COVID-19.

Thanked

The princess also thanked Their Majesties for their continued support to Imbali, through Imbali Foundation. She said the sneakers and T-shirts helped the maidens to look uniform during the course of the event. The maidens proceeded to the swamp under close protection. The security personnel also escorted the maidens back to their camps. Imbali is expected to return to Ludzidzini Royal Residence today. They will rest tomorrow and then deliver the reed on Sunday. The young girls will showcase their purity before Their Majesties and the entire world on Monday.
