NGABEZWENI - Princess Sakhizwe has been announced as the new Imbali leader.

The princess was introduced to the maidens by Imbali Indvuna Nonduduzo ‘Zuzu’ Zubuko at Ngabezweni Royal Residence yesterday.  “Here is the good news from the King: Princes Sakhizwe is your new leader,” said Zubuko, to the excitement of the maidens.

Regiment

Princess Sakhizwe took over from Princess Temashayina, who led the regiment during the COVID-19 era. Princess Temashayina had taken over from Princess Sikhanyiso. After the brief introduction of the princess, Zubuko then conveyed the message from the King, commissioning the maidens to fetch the reed. “Itsi Ingwenyama iyatfokota ngetinombolo Mbali, itsi ningalulahli lolo nyawo, chubekani niwagcine emasiko” said Zubuko, loosely translated to mean: “The King says he is impressed by your attendance, keep that spirit and preserve culture.”
Zubuko further told the maidens that the King wished them a safe journey.

She said senior maidens would fetch the reed at Mpisi Farm at Mafutseni, while the younger ones would fetch it at Bhamusakhe at Luyengo. The maidens were also warned to show concern for each other during the course of the event. Before being commissioned, the maidens got words of wisdom from the Queen Mother at Ludzidzini Royal Residence in the morning. They marched to Ngabezweni Royal Residence where they received food, T-shirts and sneakers from Their Majesties. The maidens expressed their appreciation and joy in once again marching to cut the reed, which they last did in 2019. They sang and danced all the way to Ngabezweni Royal Residence. Worth noting is that security was tightened as security personnel from the three armed forces were visible on the ground. From Ngabezweni Royal Residence, the maidens were transported to Mpisi Farm and Bhamusakhe in buses.
