MANZINI - A man who was test driving a car, which he was about to pay E83 000 for, lost control of it and knocked down a pedestrian before ramming into a parked vehicle.

The accident happened during the lunch-hour yesterday near the National Agricultural Management Board (NAMBoard) offices in Manzini. According to a source close to the matter, the man, who was accompanied by a woman, came to Rahil Swaziland Investments, a car dealership opposite Christian Media Centre, looking for a car to buy. He said after viewing about three cars, the man chose a Mazda Demio, which was selling for E83 000. The source said the man requested to test-drive the car before paying for it. This was confirmed by Yunus, who said when they were passing the Family Life Association of Eswatini (FLAS) and Philani Clinic, the car was speeding and he asked the man to slow down as they were approaching a sharp corner. “In response, the driver told me that he knows how to drive,” Yunus claimed.

Negotiate

He alleged that the man tried to negotiate the corner, but failed as the car went off the road and knocked down a pedestrian on the pavement. The potential buyer alleged that the car’s braking system malfunctioned. When this publication arrived at the scene, it found that the pedestrian had already been rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the accident.
