MBABANE – There seems to be light at the end of the tunnel in the recruitment exercises of the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) and His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) after a long wait.

Yesterday, the police announced that it would be conducting aptitude tests related to the ongoing police recruitment and selection exercise.
The aptitude test writing would be held in the four regions of the country on Saturday. The police service announced the venues where the exercise would be held and it shall commence at 8:30am in all the venues. In the Hhohho Region, the tests will be held at the Hhohho Police Regional Headquarters while in the Manzini Region it will be held at the Manzini Regional Headquarters.

Exercise

In the Lubombo and Shiselweni Regions, the exercise will be held in the regional headquarters respectively. The police service advised applicants to bring their National Identity Cards (ID) along with a pencil-led strictly HB type, rubber or eraser and a blue pen. It is worth noting that cellphones and calculators will strictly not be allowed inside the writing centres. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the announcement, stating that the applicants invited to the aptitude tests were all those who applied or registered during the application phase of the recruitment.

The application phase started in October 21, 2021 where aspiring police officers submitted their applications to their nearest police headquarters.
Meanwhile, HMCS announced that it would be conducting interviews on Saturday as well. According to the announcement issued by the Correctional Services, applicants who submitted their applications at the HMCS Headquarters and Sidwashini Correctional Centre will have their interviews at St Mark’s High School. Those who submitted their applications at the Pigg’s Peak Correctional and Bhalekane Correctional Centres will have their interviews at Mhlatane High School. Those who applied at Matsapha, Manzini Remand Centre, Mankayane, Staff College, Malkerns, Mawelawela, Vulamasango and Criminal Health Centre will write their interviews at Matsapha Correctional Staff College.

It was further stated that those who submitted their applications at Nhlangano Correctional Centre will have their interviews at Nhlangano Central High School. Those who forwarded their applications at Big Bend Correctional Centre will have their interviews at Lubombo Central High School.
HMCS Public Relations Officer Senior Superintendent Gugulethu Dlamini advised all applicants to bring their IDs, the coupons which they were given on submission of their applications as well as a pen. She further advised them that cellphones will not be allowed in the interview rooms.
“All applicants are expected to be settled by 8am in readiness for interviews and must adhere to COVID-19 regulations,” said Dlamini. On June 6, 2022, the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) started its recruitment exercise as well and it ended last week.  In all the three security forces recruitment exercises, hundreds of emaSwati youth participated in their bid to secure jobs. The number of young people who showed up during the recruitment/application exercises further revealed the high unemployment levels in the country more especially on the youth.  According to the latest Eswatini National Skills Audit, the national unemployment rate stands at 33.3 per cent while youth unemployment is at 58.3 per cent.
