MBABANE – Former King’s Private Secretary and Liqoqo Advisory Council member Sam Mpopoli Mkhombe is no more.

Sam passed away yesterday morning at the Mbabane Government Hospital, where he had been admitted. His elder brother Ezekiel confirmed Sam’s demise. He stated that his brother was undergoing dialysis treatment at the Mbabane Government for the past two years. He stated that his brother was fine on Sunday, although he was weak. The devastated Ezekiel said all his siblings had passed away and he was left with Sam. “We were six boys and last year three died, while the previous year one died,” he said. He explained that he was failing to come to terms with the passing of his brother, who had left him all by himself now. “I wish I could be taken and be placed somewhere,” he said.

Dismissed

Sam held the position of the King’s private secretary from 2004 to 2011. He was dismissed from his position within the royal hierarchy together with the late Mathendele Dlamini in January 2011. Dlamini was a member of the King’s advisory Council, Liqoqo. The news of their termination was announced by the then Chairman of the Royal Board of Trustees, Majozi Sithole.
This was after brief investigations into allegations that the duo was involved in a ploy to revive the Imbokodvo National Movement (INM).

Meanwhile, in an interview which was conducted after the death of Prime Minister Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini, Mkhombe reflected how he played a role in frustrating him. He attributed part of his misfortunes in life to the late PM, whom he accused of issuing a directive that was extremely detrimental to his professional and social life in general. According to the interview, the PM had allegedly issued a directive to the effect that Mkhombe should not be employed in government, any parastatal or any organisation in which Eswatini was a member.
