EXTREMELY COLD WINTER EXPECTED

MBABANE – This winter is expected to be extremely cold, ranging from five degrees Celsius on average.

Rains will also be experienced over almost all parts of the country during the May to July 2022 period. According to Meteorologist Sifiso Nzalo from Eswatini Meteorological Services, temperatures for the same period around May to July would range between averages of 5˚C to 15˚C at night, while during the day they would range between averages of 16˚C to 25˚C.
Nzalo stated that the predictors used placed the country in normal-to-above-normal rainfall over the forecast period in most parts of the country.

Furthermore, he mentioned that there was a chance of normal to below-normal maximum temperatures over most areas within the Highveld, with temperatures ranging between 16˚C and 22˚C during the May, June and July (MJJ) 2022 period. Meanwhile, he said minimum temperatures had a chance of normal to above-normal with temperatures varying between 5˚C and 15˚C.

In the Middleveld and Lowveld, there will be below-normal maximum, with temperatures ranging between 18˚C and 25˚C and normal to above-normal minimum temperatures over most parts of the regions, with temperatures ranging between 8˚C and 17˚C during the forecast period in May, June and July. The Lubombo Plateau and Highveld will experience a chance of below-normal maximum, with temperatures ranging between 18˚C and 25˚C, while minimum temperatures have a chance of normal to above-normal temperatures, with temperatures ranging between 10˚C and 17˚C during the forecast period, May, June and July 2022.
