EX-COP HELD FOR THEFT OF E164 500 CATTLE

NHLANGANO – A resigned police officer has been held for the alleged theft of a combined herd of 20 cattle, valued at E164 500.

Sabelo Gladman Mavuso (46), the resigned police officer, and one Bheki Stanley Banda (54), of Nhlambeni area, yesterday appeared before Shiselweni Magistrate Jabulani Maphalala, for the crimes they allegedly committed in 2020 and November 2021. They were charged with one combined count of theft and  Mavuso alone faced two more counts of theft. They both elected to solicit the services of an attorney in their defense.  The duo was jointly charged with one count of theft as upon mid-year 2020, at Ndvungunye area in the Shiselweni Region, they allegedly acted jointly in furtherance of a common purpose, did wrongfully steal a cow valued at E7 500. The cow belonged to Nomkhosi Sikhosana.

Mavuso alone was further charged with a second count of theft as on November 23, 2021, at Piet Retief area Emakhaya in South Africa, he allegedly stole a herd of 11 cattle valued at E90 000. The livestock belonged to one Mfanomusha Zwane. In the third count, Mavuso was charged with theft as on November 2021, at the same area (Piet Retief), he allegedly stole a herd of eight cattle valued at E67 000, a property of one Kenneth Bony Ngwenya.  According to sources close to the matter, Mavuso resigned from the police service in the late 1990s. They were both remanded in custody till March 9, 2022, for setting of their trial date.
