MBABANE – A resolution to dissolve the leadership of EFF Swaziland by the political party’s Secretary General and some members of the Central Coordination Team (CCT) has stirred the hornet’s nest within the party.

The political party is currently undergoing internal conflict after, in a press conference, the party’s Secretary General (SG), Ncamiso Ngcamphalala announced that the leadership was being dissolved as mandated by the organisation’s constitution. According to Ngcamphalala, the party’s leadership had completely been dissolved. This, Ngcamphalala stated, was because there was alleged malpractice within the party and, therefore, to ensure that there was a new leadership in the organisation, the executive was dissolved as per the party’s constitution, with the aim of hosting a National People’s Assembly (NPA) before the end of the year, where a new executive would be elected. Worth noting is that, the CCT is the highest decision-making body in the organisation.

Convene

“After dissolving the Executive, we have taken it upon ourselves as members of the party to convene a National Coordination Team. This team will include members such as the national convener and national coordinator,” stated Ngcamphalala. He said he didn’t want to get into the merits of what was happening, but when they held the press conference announcing that they were dissolving all the structures of the organisation, they had set up timelines that before June, they would have launched all branches and undergone the regional people’s assemblies which was congress of the regions. “After the congress of regions, we will further induct the leadership of the regions and branches and all members will continue mobilising until December. The NPA must be between November and December where we will elect the new leadership. When we dissolved, we did not dissolve the organisation per se, but we dissolved the structures of the organisation,” he explained in an interview.

He said the structures that they previously had were branches and the Women’s Command. “We are dissolving that and the national leadership so that we start afresh with the structures. We are currently being led by a National Coordination Team which will do all the work towards the regional people’s assembly and the NPA. The executive was dissolved when we dismantled everything and the national coordination team was established, which will lead the organisation into an NPA,” he said. When reached for comment on whether the leadership had indeed been dissolved and whether she was part of the National Coordination Team, EFF Swaziland President Nombulelo Motsa, said she was not part of the coordination team and there were currently internal issues that they were in the process of sorting out. “Once these internal issues are sorted, we will then decide if we want to be part of the coordination team. For now, we are not part of the team but we will be once the issues have been sorted,” said Motsa.

Questioned

She was also questioned on whether she was still the president of the organisation, as this publication had gathered that the dissolution of the executive meant that there was no president in the interim. Motsa responded by stating that the organisation’s executive had not changed. “The organisation remains the way it was and nothing has changed. All the structures that were there initially there are still in place. The only position that has had challenges was that of the secretary general, who attempted to stage a coup by dismantling the current leadership structure, but this is being dealt with internally,” she said. When questioned as to who was mediating in the matter, Motsa stated that it was the disciplinary committee of the organisation. She said EFF South Africa was also assisting with the internal issues, however, she requested not to divulge any further information.

According to Ngcamphalala, the National Coordination Team had a specific duty and it was led by a national convener and a national coordinator and other portfolios which would ensure they worked until there was an NPA, which had a timeline. “The team will work for that stipulated time, which is that by December, we should have regional leadership, from branch level to national level.

“We know that there are those who are against that but there was nothing else we could do given the situation we found ourselves in. The organisation was going down so we had no other choice than to start afresh in terms of structures of the organisation, because you cannot give people the steering who don’t know where the organisation is coming from,” he explained.
He said the people he spoke of, whose names he did not disclose, were only driving the organisation without appreciating its genesis and where it was heading. “So we had to come in and rescue the organisation because it does not belong to an individual, even myself because I was also once president, it did not belong to me. The organisation is bigger than any money and no one can come with millions and buy it, it is for emaSwati and we are going to protect it with our lives, if it means death then so be it. We have paid the ultimate price for this organisation to be where it is today,” said the now EFF National Convener.
