MBABANE - International Secretary of the Communist Party Swaziland (CPS) Pius Vilakati has decried the impression that students have no right to show their anger at the government system.

Addressing the concerns that the Student Representative Council (SRC) at William Pitcher said  their first year students did not attend the party’s summer school in December 2021; Vilakati said it was up to the institution and the SRC as an organisation to interpret the attendance of the students in their own way.

Request

He said as an organisation they did not request for permission from SRCs to have students participate in their summer school. He stated that the SRC was not in a position to know if the students did or did not attend the summer school. Vilakati said it was the students’ right to fight for the liberation of the country and call for democratic reforms in their capacity as individuals. He said the students were not obligated to reveal to the SRC if they attended or not.

Reiterate

“We encourage and we can reiterate that students did attend the summer school, which was a great success and in the same vein we want to state that students have a right to participate in politics as students as much they have rights to be part of unions after tertiary. “We also encourage our participants, especially students not to disclose their participation in the summer school, in fact we even block their faces when we post pictures to conceal their identities,” said Vilakati. He mentioned that as CPS they had an elaborate plan and they were going to do everything in their power to liberate the people.

False

This is not the first time that the Times has had to clarify a false report carried by Zweli Dlaminit on Swaziland news. Recently, Zweli tried to get the newspaper to publish false information about former MP Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane. However, during the vetting processes, the Times established that the information he gave it was false and refused to publish it, as the newspaper felt doing so would have helped Zweli fulfil the agenda he had against ‘Gawuzela’.
