PIGG’S PEAK – A man alleged to have lured under-age girls to engage in lewd sexual acts is behind bars.

Mduduzi Comfort Tsikati was arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl, *Nono, and taking several photos of her. Tsikati appeared before Magistrate Thembela Simelane after appearing before another magistrate for a confession. Tsikati is also charged for allegedly forcing two girls, aged six and seven to commit sexual acts. He was charged for indecent treatment of the girls under the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence (SODV) Act. Tsikati is alleged to have spotted Nono among her friends and isolated her after he noticed that she was wearing a torn jersey.

Approached

He is alleged to have approached her and told her that he would buy her a new jersey and that she should follow him to withdraw some money via MTN Mobile Money (MoMo). However, instead of withdrawing the money, Tsikati allegedly raped the young girl and took naked photos of her. Tsikati is said to have committed the said offences on January 12, 2022. Later, Tsikati is alleged to have lured another minor girl while she was returning from school. He is purported to have told the girl, who was about seven years old, that he would assist her to cross a river. Thinking that he was there to genuinely assist her, the girl obliged.

However, just at the river, Tsikati is said to have forced the girl to show him her private parts. It is alleged he would force the girl to undress so that he would see her body and take photos of her while naked. He is said to have done something similar with the other girl. Tsikati’s behaviour was then reported to the police by the relatives of the girls. The matter was then investigated, hence his arrest.  The cellphone he allegedly used to take the photos was also confiscated as part of the exhibits.  Tsikati briefly appeared before Magistrate Simelane where he was remanded in custody until January 29, 2022, pending the setting of a trial date before the principal magistrate. He was advised that he could apply for bail at the High Court and that the social welfare officers within the prison could assist him to do that.
