MANZINI – It’s time to answer fire with fire, but spiritually, says Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule.

To do this, the Swaziland Liberation Movement (SWALIMO) will host an end-of-year prayer at the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) Centre on Saturday and it will start at 10am. This was announced by the leadership of SWALIMO during a press conference held at SNAT Centre yesterday afternoon.
During the press conference, the bishop was given a task to explain the significance of the planned national prayer.

Prayer

He said the country needed a prayer and he urged emaSwati to attend in numbers. He said they would pray for genuine peace, not silence. He said emaSwati had been silent for too long, but that did not mean they were living in peace. “It is such prayers that will ensure that the oppression does not last forever,” the bishop said. He added that they needed to use their spiritual weapons to win the struggle against all sorts of wickedness. He said they should pray until something happened; like taking the economy back to the people. In fact, he said emaSwati should take the planned prayer as a spiritual struggle. “It is time to answer fire with fire in the spiritual warfare. Prayer is a strong weapon. When the people pray, the foundation of wickedness is shaken,” the bishop said.

When he was asked to clarify what he meant by answering fire with fire spiritually, the bishop said he meant that they would be repeating what the regime wants but in Jesus’s name. On another note, the bishop told members of the Swaziland Massacre Victims and Survivors’ Association (SWAVISA) and all the people who were shot or tortured during the political unrest in June/July 2021, that they had paid a great price for the struggle. Thereafter, he said the price they paid was not in vain.

Meanwhile, SWALIMO Deputy Secretary General (DSG) Gift Dlamini said during the prayer session, they would also pray against fatigue because their plan was not to stop fighting until they got the liberation. Again, the Swaziland People’s Liberation Movement’s (SPLM) Vikimphi Nhlabatsi said in their manifesto, there was a clause which said; “In God we trust.” In that regard, he said they believed that they would win the struggle through prayer, just like the story of David who defeated Goliath in the Bible.

Once more, SWAVISA Chairman Madzabudzabu Kunene urged all organisations which were fighting for political reforms to unite, instead of being divided, as that was working against them. The leaders of SWALIMO said offerings which would be collected during the planned prayer service would be taken to SWAVISA to support the unrest victims and survivors. They added that transport arrangements would be made and emaSwati would know about them by Friday. When they were asked about the COVD-19 guidelines, the leaders of SWALIMO said they would do their best to ensure that peoples’ lives were safe. They said social distancing would be observed, people would be sanitised and the wearing of face masks would be compulsory for all attendees.
