MBABANE – Two teachers from Siphofaneni High School and KaMkhweli Primary have been implicated in a robbery at Siphofaneni.

The teachers and three suspects driving in a red Polo vehicle were said to have robbed a Mobile Money vendor of a sum of E8 000. One of the teachers from KaMkhweli has been apprehended by the police while the other fled. This was confirmed by Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, who said the Siphofaneni teacher made a commitment that he would surrender to the police. She said the three suspects revealed that they were working with the teachers and their investigations also confirmed that the KaMkhweli teacher had received a cut of E600 from the robbery committed at Siphofaneni.

According to Vilakati, while still investigating the Siphofaneni robbery, three suspects alleged that the teachers were also involved in the Buy Cash arson.
Vilakati stated that the teachers were accomplices of three robbery suspects who had been arrested by the police, who also robbed Buy Cash of a sum of E43 000 and tried to conceal evidence by setting alight the business. “The suspects upon realising that CCTV cameras had taken their footage decided to burn the shop.”

Comment

When sought for comment on the matter, Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) Secretary General Sikelela Dlamini said they had touched base with their branch in Big Bend, which confirmed that they had information to that effect but were still conducting investigations. Dlamini said what they had gathered was that the two teachers were not directly involved in the robbery but their friends were. He added that after completing their comprehensive report they would comment objectively on the case.
