MALKENS – Simply magical!

This is the best way to describe the performance of South African award- winning group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo at the Standard Bank Luju Festival yesterday. The award-winning group took to the stage just before 6pm and judging from the response, the attendees were eagerly awaiting for the performance. This was evident as most of the attendees were seen walking towards the stage immediately after it was announced that the group was next.
All along, most of the attendees had been sitting on their camp chairs and not dancing anywhere near the stage.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo was more than ready to entertain its fans as it performed some of its popular songs, which completely turned the arena into a platform of dance and singing along. The group had the fans going crazy with their song titled ‘Long Walk to Freedom’, which turned the arena into one where most of the fans had their hands up in the air. The fans also went crazy when the group performed the song ‘Lelilungelo ngelakho’. As if that was not enough, they had the fans screaming even more with a rendition of the song ‘Halo my baby’. On another note, the group sent a special shout out to women.

Women

One of the members encouraged those in attendance to show some love to the women present at the concert. The member also encouraged men to show love to the women at home. During an interview after their performance, the group was asked if they had received any threats regarding the show as it was the case with their South African colleagues Sjava and Mafikizolo, who ended up cancelling their plans to perform at the event. In response, the group said they had not received any threats but that they would not have cancelled as they believed music united people.

However, the group stated that they were aware of the political unrest in the country and that they were praying for the people of Eswatini. Towards the end of yesterday’s show, House on Fire Director Jiggs Thorne took the microphone and thanked the hundreds who showed up. “It was a brave decision to put up the festival. I thank the Ministry of Health for working with us. The spirit was that; let us use the festival to push the vaccination drive. This will definitely benefit the country. I appreciate the team. We had many vendors. The platform helped a faction that has been struggling for months.

“With everything that has been said on social media, we have to find solidarity in all of this. Having all of you here supporting this event means a lot,” he said. Meanwhile, afro soul sensation, Sandz, was the surprise act of the festival at around 7pm and did what he is best known for - serenading his fans with the songs that made him a household name.
