MBABANE - The statement that was made by Siphofaneni Member of Parliament (MP) Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane at Summerfield Botanical Gardens will now be used against his colleagues, Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube.

Simelane allegedly made the statements on June 24, 2021. In his statement, Simelane commented about the ban on the delivery of petitions to constituency centres by government. “I have tried reading through his statement trying to establish why he banned this exercise, only to find that it was because it was hijacked by hooligans. He mentioned that it also promotes disorder and that the nation is not safe from COVID-19,” reads part of the statements which now form part of the evidence.

Statement

He stated that through the statement he made on that day (at Summerfield), he was sympathising with the nation and all present in the country for what the then acting prime minister was doing. “I think Babe Mshengu (Bacede) has articulated some of the things that we should remind ourselves of, that this is not somebody’s home, but a country,” he said. Simelane further stated that the issue of freedom of assembly and freedom of association was enshrined in the Constitution. He said the issue of petitions, in Parliament standing orders, was emphasised. “We are not naïve; we can all see that he is using COVID- 19 to score political points. Do not manipulate the minds of emaSwati acting prime minister by using death to serve your interests,” he said.
