I FOUND GIRLFRIEND WITH ANOTHER MAN AT MEGA LOUNGE – ‘MAHOOTA’

MBABANE –- “Upon arrival at Mega Lounge, I found my girlfriend in the company of a certain gentleman.”

These were some of the submissions made by businessman Sibusiso ‘Mahoota’ Nkambule in his bail application. Nkambule, who now wants out of jail, stands accused of having killed Bandzile Ginindza by shooting him with a pistol twice in the left arm and stomach. The incident happened over the weekend at Mega Lounge hangout spot, which is situated at Sidwashini in Mbabane. In his bail application, Nkambule narrated to the court that on September 25, 2021, in the late afternoon and in the company of his friends, he went to Sidwashini at a drinking spot known as Mega Lounge.

“Upon arrival I found my girlfriend in the company of a certain gentleman and she had not informed me that she would be at Sidwashini. I requested to talk to her on the side and we excused ourselves from the crowd,” submitted the accused. He claimed that an argument ensued between the two of them as his girlfriend was very drunk and was failing to see reason when he suggested that they should leave.  He alleged that another friend of his girlfriend intervened in their argument and assaulted him. The accused submitted that, seeing that the situation was getting out of hand, the security personnel intervened and assaulted him and a group of men who had been sitting with his girlfriend joined in and he was severely assaulted. The businessman told the court that he managed to run away and took refuge in his car, which was parked at the car park. “However, the group started throwing bottles at my car and threatening to break the windows. My firearm was in the car and I took it and kept it in my hands at the situation was getting volatile,” contended the accused.

Blocking

He narrated to the court that he did not feel safe in the car and when he got an opportunity, he went out of the motor vehicle and ran away. Nkambule said he could not drive away from the scene because there were other cars blocking the road. “I received a call from a friend that the situation had calmed down and I decided to return and get my car. I had left the key in the ignition. To my surprise, I found that the car had been removed from where I left it and parked outside, however, there were no keys,” he argued. The accused alleged that he confronted the gentleman, whom he was advised had driven the car out of the premises and requested for the keys. Nkambule claimed that the gentleman told him that his (Nkambule’s) girlfriend took the keys from him and left with same. “I got angry as to how he could take my keys and give them to someone else as I had the urgency to leave the scene. While we were still arguing, the deceased came behind me and using his arm, he held my neck. I was carrying my firearm,” alleged the accused.  According to the accused, they tussled until they both fell down.

Nkambule said: “While rolling on the ground the firearm went off. The deceased did not let go of me but attempted to take the firearm from me and that is when it went off again.” He also pointed out that the deceased was not known to him nor had they had an earlier altercation to warrant that he could intentionally kill him.  Nkambule said this was an accident that happened very fast and all of them were drunk. The bail application will be heard by Judge John Magagula today and the Crown is still to indicate whether it is opposing same or not.  The accused is represented by Noncedo Ndlangamandla.
