MANZINI - Tomorrow, the Political Party Assembly (PPA) will visit the Kwaluseni Constituency to meet those who were injured during last week’s pro-democracy protests.

This was disclosed by the President of the Peoples’ United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), Mlungisi Makhanya, during a press conference at the Caritas in Manzini yesterday. The press conference was attended by leaders of political parties in the country. Representing Sive Siyinqaba was its Chairperson Musa Nkambule, Elliot Mkhatshwa represented the Swaziland Democratic Party (SWADEPA), while Themba Dlamini represented the Swaziland People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM). Also present were the President of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Swaziland, Nombulelo Motsa and Ngwane National Liberatory Congress (NNLC) President Sibongile Mazibuko. When addressing the media, Makhanya said the PPA, after deliberations and viewing a way forward, had decided to visit Kwaluseni tomorrow. He said this followed that there had been many calls from people who were injured and some were still in their places of abode seeking medical attention.

Invitation

Makhanya also extended an invitation to those who could not account for their relatives and those who were killed during the protests to join them tomorrow. “I extend an invitation to all leaders that on Friday (tomorrow) they should visit Kwaluseni Inkhundla and interact with our people,” Makhanya said. He said following this interaction with the people, they would march to Matsapha Police Station wherein they shall seek the release of protesters who were denied justice by not being presented to a court of law. Makhanya said should the police have any evidence incriminating the people who were allegedly kept in police cells, that evidence should be presented in a court of law so that their lawyers could assist them in regaining their freedom. The president of PUDEMO, a proscribed entity, claimed that since the violence started , their lawyers were supposedly denied access to meeting those who were detained in relation to the violence.

Furthermore, Makhanya extended an invitation to members of the public to attend a memorial service on Saturday to be held in honour of those who were allegedly killed by the security personnel. He said the memorial service shall be hosted in Manzini wherein those from Kwaluseni Inkhundla shall meet with those from Manzini at a venue yet to be announced. He also encouraged those who would attend to wear black.

Solidarity

Supporting this was the president of the NNLC, who said the need to meet the people was to be with them in solidarity and in prayer while also extending an invitation to government that they were open to negotiations as they had lost many souls during the protests. Mazibuko denounced the killing of people allegedly by members of the security forces and emphasised that the PPA was a non-violent association; therefore, the alleged killings should stop.
