MBABANE – The SADC Troika fact-finding team allegedly made no attempt to contact the ‘advocates for change’ Members of Parliament (MPs).

This was said by Hosea MP Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza when interviewed yesterday. Government, through the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Thuli Dladla, told the SADC delegation that the unrest in the country had started after a call for change was made by some MPs. MP Mabuza said no one had attempted to call him and he only heard rumours that the delegation was in the country yesterday and had allegedly also met with members of the civil society who were unknown to him.
“I think government has ruled too long through telling lies and I feel sorry for them,” he said. The MP said they had not even failed in Parliament in pushing for the change and challenged government to call a House sitting.

The MP said lecturing emaSwati on change had nothing to do with the ongoing protests or acts of vandalism which took place in the past few days. “I am advocating for change in the system, especially on the electing of a prime minister,” he said.  The MP said once Troika was serious about solving the problem, it would get the other side of the story.  “They are citing some entity and fortunately I am the one who made the call for an election of a PM and government for the people, the current government’s propaganda will not work,” he said.

Change

Mabuza said they would not stop telling the people about advocating for change and this would not be achieved, however, through destroying property. He said what the minister had told Troika was because she was still in power and protecting her job.
On the issue of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), he said it was the first he was hearing of it. “When you say someone has done something, you ordinarily have the facts and evidence and what I know is Eswatini has several political parties which are pushing the same agenda of change and this is not by burning someone’s property,” he said. He said he knew nothing about the EFF, which was why he was not even in hiding and remained in the country. He said he would continue to speak his truth both in and out of Parliament. Mabuza said they were prepared to give their side of the story if Troika was serious. “I do not think this was the real Troika,” he said.
