MBABANE – The Acting Prime Minister Themba Masuku has deactivated his Facebook account following harassment directed to him by some users.

This comes after Masuku responded on the issue raised by the three Members of Parliament (MPs) advocating for change; Siphofaneni MP Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane, Hosea MP Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Ngwempisi MP Mthandeni  Dube. Siphofaneni MP Simelane clarified in the Times of Eswatini SUNDAY publication that they were not against the King or the Tinkhundla System of Governance. Simelane said they were advocating for change in the manner the PM was chosen. Masuku’s number was then posted on social media where users were invited to call him and seek clarity on what he really meant when he said emaSwati were happy with the King appointing a PM. They stated that the Constitution should be amended as they were not in agreement with it.

Explaining, Masuku said he would no longer use social media as there were a number of people who were wasting time there. He stated that he thought social media was meant to educate people but realised it was madness. “Some of the people using social media are suffering from a brain disorder of some sort.” He said insulting someone because you do not agree with their opinion or beliefs was a mental disorder of some sort. The acting PM said he had been receiving messages and calls from some locals and South African numbers. “They can insult me all day long but I will remain who I am and will not change,” Masuku said. He stated that his number was issued by the very same people who were elected through the Tinkhundla System of governance. Masuku said some people who were using social media to bully others were compromising those who used it to get genuine help. He said some people who wanted help used the social media tool.

Rift

Meanwhile, he said the rift between himself and social media users was a result of his position where he tried to educate the MPs on what was contained in the country’s Constitution on Section 67 under the appointment of the PM and ministers. He said it was hypocrisy to state that you liked Tinkhundla system and at the same time claiming that you were for another form of democracy.  Masuku said he stood by his word that the PM was appointed by the King, which should be respected. He said this was also backed up by the Constitution on Section 67 (1) which reads; “The King shall appoint the PM from among members of the House acting on recommendation of the king’s Advisory Council.” Masuku said it was only a fool who would insult him for something which was written in black and white in the Constitution.
