LAMGABHI - Government has hailed the late Minister of Labour and Social Security, Makhosi Vilakati, for making his mark in administration despite spending just over two years in office.

This was revealed by the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, who was representing government during the State funeral of the late minister. The funeral was held at Vilakati’s homestead at LaMgabhi yesterday morning.

Minister Bulunga said the whole Cabinet was reeling from shock and pain regarding the passing of a treasure of a man, a valuable member of their team and an exceptional servant of the Kingdom of Eswatini.

Action-oriented

He said the late minister was a true action-oriented person, who was always bemoaning long meetings in favour of being out and about serving and working to implement the various decisions taken by his ministry and government.

“He was always full of life and had a great sense of humour. This, he usually brought to life in the midst of tense situations even at Cabinet, by cracking a joke or even teasing one of his fellow ministers,” Bulunga said.

He added that there was no situation to him that was ever too sacred to share a little laugh and such was his beautiful take on life.

As a colleague, he said Vilakati embodied reliability and efficiency and was a terrific team player. He said this was because he was always ready and willing to assist in advancing, not just the aims of his ministry, but those of other ministries, fully understanding that it was a collective assignment. “Despite spending just over two years in office, Vilakati had already made his mark in government, driving the implementation of the first ever National Skills Audit in the country.

At Cabinet, he was a passionate advocate for issues involving students and scholarships, further underlining his commitment to serving and improving the lives of emaSwati,” Bulunga said. Cabinet also comforted the people of LaMgabhi Inkhundla who, in 2018, propelled Vilakati to the august house and eventually to Cabinet, having witnessed, his tremendous leadership qualities and his willingness to serve, not just his constituency but the country.

Even in the midst of all this anguish, he said they prayed and hope that they could all take inspiration from a life well lived and the qualities that made Vilakati a great family man, a loyal friend, reliable colleague and brilliant boss to many of them in Cabinet and beyond.
