MBABANE – Akufutfwe!

This is advice given by Apostle Justice Dlamini to emaSwati as one of the measures to treat COVID-19 symptoms.

The advice was in a circulated audio which caused a lot of frenzy on social media yesterday, where the apostle was sharing tips that helped him recover from the coronavirus.

It comes at a time when the World Health Organisation (WHO) recently announced that steam inhalation was not a treatment  for COVID-19 and may cause serious burns. This publication quoted WHO having said people should be aware of rumours and information about the pandemic on social media. Rather, they were advised to get facts from trusted sources so they could accurately determine risks and take precautions.

Dlamini confirmed the audio and stated that he wanted it to be shared to help those who were fighting the virus to take the necessary precautions to overcome it.

In the audio, Dlamini made it known that the virus was real and could be dangerous.

“You can’t believe that I contracted the virus and I was not aware. It almost killed me on December 30 before crossover,” the apostle disclosed.

He further stated that he struggled to breathe and that was when he got tested for the virus. Dlamini said later, results confirmed that he was positive.

He said the devil had sent the virus as a weapon to kill God’s people. Dlamini mentioned that the kingdom, South Africa and the world over, had lost several people to the pandemic.

He recalled that there was a time when he experienced shortness of breath such that he went outside to get fresh air but ‘it could not get into his lungs’.

He said the most crucial thing was for emaswati to do everything in their strength to ensure that they were protected from the virus.

“Asiyenteni lendzaba yekutsi utifutse ngoba lomkhuhlane lona loyi COVID ujaka kuyovala lamaphaphu. so kufuna vele ufutse ngalo gomu, utifutse mbamba.” He meant that people should make it a point to do steam inhalation because the virus attacked the respiratory system and prevented one from breathing. He added that if one felt that they were catching a flu, they should go all out and treat the symptoms. He said prayer alone could not treat COVID-19.

The man of God highlighted that in any case when a person experienced a headache, sore throat and other symptoms, they should steam.

The man of the cloth appreciated WHO’s efforts in informing people about the virus. However, he implored the organisation to refrain from advising people against steaming. Dlamini said old as he was, he grew up steaming, which had proved to be effective all his life.

“I also implore government health workers not to operate like people from foreign countries. They shouldn’t forget that as emaSwati, we also have our way of doing things. Steaming works! If I had not done it, the virus would have claimed my life and there would be no Apostle Justice,” he said. Dlamini said steaming was highly effective and people should not look down upon it.

Ventilators

He also advised that families should fight for their relatives who had contracted the virus to stay at home rather than go to a health facility where they would be administered ventilators. He said the ventilator alone could not treat the virus.

“When health practitioners give medication, you should steam your relatives. It should go hand-in-hand,” Dlamini emphasised. The man of the cloth stated that drinking a hot mixture of ginger, lemon and garlic also helped him a lot.

He said people should steam with eucalyptus oil, vapour rub and umhlonyane.

He also encouraged locals to eat a balanced diet with lots of fruit and vegetables. He highlighted that the virus caused one to lack appetite, but people should fight and ensure that they took their medication.

He said faith alone without works was futile. As a result, he highlighted that believers should enhance their bodies by eating healthy and steaming.

“Yekelani lokutsatsa labantfu nibafake etibhedlela, abafutftwe labantfu!” he said emphatically.

He said people should fight that their relatives are not admitted to health facilities but rather request for them to go home and steam. He reiterated the importance of the Ministry of Health guidelines such as wearing a mask, washing hands and social distancing.
