MANZINI – A man, who many deemed had a dry sense of humour, lost his life after causing chaos at a bar at Eteni.

The deceased, Siyabonga Mavuso, was said to have a dry sense of humour which irked patrons at the bar at Eteni, where he would occasionally display playful antics. According to an eyewitness, on the day he was killed, Mavuso entered the bar, picked up a table and dropped it on the ground. At the time, there were a group of males enjoying a game of pool. Mavuso was said to have started switching the lights on and off inside the bar, such that the owner of the establishment decided to throw him out, also because he was about to close the doors to the bar for the night. A few minutes after being chased out, Mavuso had an altercation with Ndumiso Gumbi, who he was said to have insulted.   Gumbi, in an attempt to apprehend him, started chasing Mavuso around the outside of the bar.

However, after a few minutes of chasing him, eyewitnesses alleged that Mavuso returned, clutching his chest and bleeding profusely, claiming that he had been stabbed. Sources stated that Gumbi, after allegedly stabbing Mavuso, immediately approached a nearby home and requested the occupants to call the police.  Gumbi (20) has since been arrested and charged for the murder of a 27-year-old patron on Christmas Eve. The offence was said to have been committed at a bar at Eteni, at about 2:45am. Gumbi subsequently made his appearance before Manzini Magistrate Philisiwe Simelane yesterday, where he was formally charged with murder.

Injury

According to the particulars of the matter, Mavuso was stabbed once in the chest with a sharp object, sustaining an injury which he succumbed to upon arrival at the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial hospital. During his appearance, Gumbi was remanded back in custody until January 7, 2021 pending his committal to the High Court of Eswatini. In the same court, Samkelo Maziya (24) of Logoba was arrested and charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed Msizi Dlamini with a sharp object several times in his back. The offence occurred at Logoba area on December 19, 2020.

: Squatters on farms
The influx of squatters on farms will always be a challenge unless chiefs are salaried and regulated by government. Do you agree with this sentiment shared by farm owners?
