AE CHAMPIONSHIPS ON YOUTUBE

MBABANE – The world will get to witness the country’s best in athletics.

This comes after the Athletics Eswatini (AE) 2020 National Track and Field Senior Championships’ video was uploaded on YouTube. The national championships were held on October 31, 2020 at the Mavuso Sports Centre.

AE Public Relations Officer (PRO) Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini confirmed yesterday that they uploaded the video to give people who missed out on the big day a glimpse of what transpired because spectators were not allowed due to COVID-19 safety regulations.

“We are pleased to inform you that the 2020 national track and field championships video is now available on our YouTube Channel and people can now witness the championships. AE decided to use YouTube because the competitions were held behind closed doors as fans were not permitted in the venue due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

By close of business yesterday, over 70 people had watched the video. The championships were the last competition of a track and field event to be held by AE. The association will now focus on road running until next year.

Dominating during the national championships were sprinters and national record holders Phumlile Ndzinisa along with Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa. The events held included 100m, 200m, 400m, 4X100m relay, 4X400m relay, shot put, discus, javelin, long jump.

“This has also given the athletes a chance to get international exposure as the video can be watched by everyone around the globe,” he added.
