MBABANE – The Ministry of Health announced 15 new COVID-19 cases and 35 recoveries yesterday.

The cases were confirmed by Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi.  The 15 cases were recorded from 271 tests that were conducted. This means that the total number of COVID-19 cases is now 5 632. Manzini Region recorded seven cases; Lubombo had four, while Hhohho and Shiselweni regions recorded two cases each.  Of the confirmed cases, nine had mild symptoms, four were asymptomatic and two were moderate.  By gender, there are 2 994 female cases in total, while males are 2 638. There were no cases from ages zero to 19 as reported cases were between 20 and 79 years age groups.

Recoveries

The total number of recoveries now stands at 5 231. This means that active cases are 288 while deaths are 113. No COVID-19-related deaths were reported yesterday.  The difference between active cases and recoveries is 4 943 in favour of the latter.  The minister stated that even though the COVID-19 pandemic curve was flattening, the coronavirus was still a concern in the country.  She said until a definitive treatment or vaccine for COVID-19 was found, another exponential increase in the number of cases was still possible if prevention measures were not adhered to by the nation.  “Our goal as a nation is to continue to halt the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the deaths associated with it. Achieving this goal calls for a collective effort.

Every individual has a role to play in protecting themselves, their families, their communities and the nation from this contagious virus,” she said.
