MBABANE – Inkhosatana Sikhanyiso, the Minister of Information, Communication and Technology, was a head turner at Ludzidzini Royal Residence.

This was during a low key event marking what could have been this year’s full scale Umhlanga Ceremony.

The minister arrived when maidens had already assembled at the main arena where they danced to traditional songs in front of Ingwenyama and Indlovukazi.

She sat beside Indlovukazi. She is a noticeable good dancer, but didn’t participate yesterday.

Princess Sikhanyiso is currently on leave and Manqoba Khumalo, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade doubles as the Acting Minister of Information, Communication and Technology.

The very few maidens who participated in the event covered a part of the phases of the ceremony, which 150 000 maidens could have done. They were only dogged by the quantity of the reed they presented to Their Majesties.

More maidens could have brought more reeds.

However, the low turnout caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and participation limitation in public events, did not dampen the spirits as Imbali was basically beaming with confidence, showing love for the sacred ceremony and also paying unwavering allegiance to Their Majesties.

They were praised for delivering quality reeds to the country’s traditional headquarters.

They accomplished the fundamental task of the ceremony, which is to bring the reed to the royal residence and dance to traditional songs.

Here are pictures from the event.
