4 NEW COVID-19 DEATHS, 65 NEW CASES

MBABANE – The country has recorded four new deaths due to COVID-19, bringing the tally to 32.


The deaths were confirmed by Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi in a press statement. Three of the deaths were from the Manzini Region while one was from Hhohho.  The first death was of a 56-year-old man from the Manzini Region, who was admitted to one of the country’s hospitals on July 20, 2020 with severe respiratory symptoms and was put in an isolation ward while in an unstable condition and treated as a COVID-19 suspect. The minister stated that he had known underlying medical conditions. The second death was of an 81-year-old woman also from the Manzini Region, who was diagnosed with COVID-19 on July 21, 2020.

She was also admitted to one of the health facilities in a moderate to severe state and managed under oxygen support, according to the minister.
Nkosi said she continued to be in an unstable state with difficulty in containing the pre-existing illness, resulting in her death in the early hours of Saturday.
Meanwhile, a 76-year-old woman from Hhohho who was admitted to one of the country’s hospitals after presenting with respiratory distress symptoms also died on Saturday.
 “She developed complications as a result of pre-existing illnesses. She was confirmed positive for COVID-19 disease on July 24, 2020 but unfortunately passed away the next day,” she said.


Also, a 51-year-old woman from Manzini Region lost her life due to COVID-19 while waiting for her results.  She was admitted on July 19, 2020 while presenting with multiple complaints, according to the minister.   She said the deceased was admitted, tested for COVID-19 and managed while waiting for her results. While under care; her condition deteriorated and she died on July 24, 2020.  Her results, according to the minister, later came back positive for COVID-19.  On a different note, the country recorded an additional 65 cases yesterday. 

Hhohho Region recorded 34 new cases while Manzini had 30 and one from the Shiselweni Region.  Of the total, 51 cases presented with a mild disease while 12 were asymptomatic and two had a moderate disease.  There were six cases in the age bracket of zero to nine while two were under ages 80 years and above.  By gender, females are 1 178 while males are 1 029. The country also recorded 46 recoveries bringing the tally to 986. This means that active cases in the country are currently 1 189.
