MANZINI – In yet another Buy Cash Hardware outlet robbery, six gun-toting robbers tied a security guard and forced him to fetch keys to a safe from the manager and cashier.

After fetching the manager and cashier from their houses, they used the safe keys to open the safe and stole over E16 000.
This incident took place on Monday night at Buy Cash Hardware situated at Sithobelweni in the Lubombo Region.
The chain stores of Buy Cash Hardware are owned by the Minister of Agriculture, Jabulani Mabuza.

Impeccable

According to an impeccable source, the six robbers were wearing beanie hats and face masks and some of them were armed with guns (pistols).
The source said the robbers pounced on the security guard at the hardware and tied him using cable ties.
Thereafter, the source said, the robbers broke into the hardware store, but failed to open the safe.  He said they interrogated the security guard about the whereabouts of the keys to the safe and he allegedly surrendered the information that one of the keys was with the store manager while the other was under the custody of a cashier. He said the robbers ordered the security guard to lead them to where the manager and the cashier lived.

He said they first went to the manager’s house, which is about 500 metres away from the hardware store.
Upon arrival, the source said, the robbers kicked the door open, gained entry and made it clear to the manager that they were only there for the money and ordered him to bring with him the keys as they were going back to the hardware.

The robbers, according to the source, ordered the two Buy Cash Hardware  store employees to lead them to the cashier’s house and they carried out the order as they were threatened with murder if they failed to follow their command.
Again, he said when they arrived at the cashier’s house, which was also a stone’s throw from the manager’s apartment; they kicked the door open and went inside.

“They also gave her the order that she should bring with her the keys to the safe,” the source said.
Afterwards, he said they walked with them to the hardware store where some of them opened the safe and packed the money into a bag, while others held the trio at gunpoint.
After stealing the money, the source said the robbers wanted to tie up the manager and cashier, but the duo pleaded not to be tied and promised not to cause any trouble.

He said the robbers then took them back to their houses and left the security guard tied at the hardware store. He said they then fled.
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the robbery.
She said the police were investigating the matter and no arrests had been made yet. It is worth noting that Buy Cash Hardware chain stores around the country have been robbed several times.

 Pounced

During the month of December 2015, three armed robbers attacked one of the stores and tied a security guard, before getting away with cash estimated around E60 000. This break-in was the third in a space of a month.
Again, in December 2016, part of E81 000, which was stolen at Buy Cash Hardware was recovered at a roadblock that had been mounted by traffic police officers at Nkoyoyo.

The police arrested two men at the roadblock after being found in possession of the E81 000 believed to be part of the cash that was stolen during the robbery which took place at the Pigg’s Peak branch of Buy Cash Hardware.
It is also worth mentioning that the minister invested over E1.5 million in this hardware and it was officially opened in 2012.
