MANZINI - The Ministry of Education and Training wants public transport vehicles designated only for pupils as more buses and kombis will be added from tomorrow.

This is according to the National Road Transport Council (NRTC) Chairman, Sihlangu Nhlabatsi, who said they met the Ministry of Education and Training yesterday to discuss the issue of availability of public transport vehicles as government was anticipating reopening schools.

He said in their meeting, the representatives from the ministry made a plea that public transport operators should provide vehicles that would be solely designated for pupils.
“We are still discussing how we (public transport operators) can make this possible and we will also take our suggestions back to the ministry,” the chairman said.

On another note, he said since government was opening the economy further, they had also discussed how they would ensure that public transport vehicles would be enough for members of the public.
In that regard, the chairman said the new schedules to be released tomorrow, would have more public transport vehicles. He added that on Monday, more vehicles would be added, but he mentioned that the number of vehicles per route would be determined by the demand.

“However, I can safely say that the Manzini-Mbabane route will operate with 50 per cent vehicles, while other routes might have slightly above the 50 per cent,” the chairman said.
Nhlabatsi emphasised that they would keep on updating the public regarding the availability of public transport as discussions were still ongoing.
