NTFUTFWAKATI – A lovers’ tiff ended tragically when the man set his lover’s house alight before hanging himself.

Bongani Mamba (23), who was employed as a herdsman around Gundvwini, outside Manzini, reportedly had a fight with his lover a few days before he hanged himself from a tree situated in one of the bushes around the area.
His unresponsive body was discovered on Monday evening. Originally, the deceased hailed from the Lubombo Region’s rural area of Ntfutfwakati, which is in the Lubulini vicinity.

It was gathered that the man only had one child with the woman. The couple did not stay together, but they frequently saw each other since the woman’s parental homestead was also situated around Gundvwini.

The nature or cause of their disagreement could not be immediately ascertained as the lover was said to be inconsolable after the man’s body was found hanging by a search party that was commissioned soon after he couldn’t be accounted for on Sunday.
Pain

The woman later told the deceased’s parents that when she last saw their son, he had complained that it was better for him to die than the pain he was going through.

This was apparently after the man had set alight a house belonging to the woman at her homestead last Saturday night. Fortunately, the woman wasn’t in the house when the incident took place, as she was said to have been watching television in a separate house within the compound.
Following the discovery of the body, the deceased’s father Peter Mamba told this publication that he proceeded to Gundvwini to gather some details about his son’s death. Mamba said his first stop was at his son’s employers and then later the mother of his child.

Upset

“It was difficult to get any information from the woman because she was terribly upset. She kept on crying instead of responding to the questions I had asked her. The only thing she was able to tell me was that she had met him on the Sunday when he disappeared, where he told her that it was better for him to die than to continue experiencing whatever he was going through.

However, she confirmed that they had quarrelled though she couldn’t give details,” narrated the grieving elderly man.
Mamba said his family was devastated by the death of his son.

He painted a grim picture of his homestead, and at the time of the interview, the elderly man was still trying to figure out how he was going to bury his son. He appealed for assistance from members of the public, who could help him give his son a decent send-off.

Efforts by this publication to reach the woman who had quarreled with the deceased were futile as she could not be reached on her mobile phone, after her late lover reportedly disappeared with her SIM card, before taking the drastic decision of ending his life.
The suicide incident was confirmed by Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, when contacted yesterday.
