ZOLA ATTENDS FRIEND’S WEDDING
NHLANGANO – When she joined royal life back in 2003, she had to give up a lot from her past life.
However, Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini’s sixth wife Ndlunkulu Zola Mafu, who is originally from the Kingdom of Eswatini, certainly hasn’t lost touch with her roots.
On Saturday, the royal beauty proved to still be in touch with her past life when she attended the wedding ceremony of her childhood friend, Lindelwa Mbingo, a nurse by profession, who got married to Mlungisi Nene, a police officer based at Hluti in the Shiselweni Region. The Zulu Queen went to the same school as the bride, at the prestigious St Mark’s High School in Mbabane.
Limelight
The ceremony was held at the Phumula Guest House, in Nhlangano, where the queen made a head turning entry, changing the whole occasion into a royal affair.
At the ceremony, the queen also made a passionate speech, the highlight of which was when she reminded women to keep it in mind that ‘boys will always be boys’, and encouraged them to pray for their spouses to become responsible and real loving husbands.
Sharing her words of wisdom, Ndlunkulu Mafu encouraged women to respect their husbands, and most of all follow their lead in the family. She said the role of a wife in the family should not be reduced into that of a fault detector, who is always ready to point out to their husband’s faults and failures.
Throughout her address, the Zulu Queen displayed her charisma and charm, which somehow caused her to momentarily steal the limelight from the couple. She reminded the loving pair that exchanging vows in front of a gathering was the easiest part of the marriage.
Gratitude
However, she emphasised that committing to the union took the greatest of the work. She said all marriages had their ups and downs, but warned the couple against holding on to resentment whenever one got wronged in any way. The Zulu royal family member encouraged couples to talk about issues and desist from involving a third party in the marriage. “Keeping a marriage is no easy feat by any measure. It requires patience and lots of love. One needs to understand that men will always be men, and will not settle for any lesser role than being the leader of the family.
“One also ought to understand that things will not be all rosy in the marriage, there will always be ups and downs. But a good wife remains caring and loving throughout; commitment and love are key to a long lasting marriage,” she said, much to the approval of excited guests.
On her parting note, Ndlunkulu Mafu advised couples to always find time to listen to their partners.
She insisted that such was the only way in which couples could get to stay connected and to understand what’s going on in each partner’s life. After the occasion, the newlyweds expressed gratitude to all those who supported them on their special day. The groom, Nene, said they felt very honoured by the presence of royalty at the ceremony.
