MANZINI – Does what you wear to church have any meaning of the level of your Christian belief or it’s just clothes?

This is one question that could cross one’s mind following the ongoing debate in churches on what a moral Christian should wear in church, as some Christians believe that God is more concerned with the heart than He is with clothes while others believe that people should dress appropriately in church. In a bid to dissect the aforementioned subject, random interviewees, including prominent pastors were engaged on the matter. Hazel Sihlase said she was of the view that it would be wise for a Christian to wear anything or as they pleased to church. “When you cover something, you cause someone to be more curious to know what’s hidden there. when something is exposed, people lose interest in it. That’s the nature of men,” she said.

Implying

Mbuso Hlanze said the type of clothes worn by Christians in church were not of any particular significance, however, he was quick to mention that he was not implying that people should walk naked but said on the contrary, what he meant was that sin was not in action but in the mind and nature of man so whether people covered or uncovered their bodies, a corrupt mind would still fall. Sipho Dludlu said how you dress up for church should be a consideration. He said there may not be a specific law to deal with how people should be dressed up in church but it remains an undisputable fact that some people were mischievous by nature.

Consider

“While you are in your house preparing and dressing up for church, what comes to your mind as a Christian? Do you ever consider the item that you want to wear on that particular day? It’s a pity that some people call evil good and good evil, otherwise you have to think about the weak in your midst as a Christian before dressing up for church,”  said Sebe Mavuso.
Mkhuzeni Msweli said when he hears Africans argue about clothes, he just laughs. “A majority of people just knew clothes recently; all their ancestors wore almost nothing but did not have such lust they are talking about,” he said. Well-known Mbabane Centre leader, Apostle Justice Dlamini said given that the Bible did not specify a particular dress code for men and females since it’s a book that was not written for any particular ethnic group of any particular culture but for a multicultural world population, it becomes safe to give a well thought-out opinion on the subject.
