NAPSAWU TENSION OVER 2018 CONGRESS

MANZINI - There has been tension within NAPSAWU over their 2018 congress unfinished business. In April 2019, the National Public Service and Allied Workers Union (NAPSAWU) had an elective congress at Esibayeni Lodge but it was unceremoniously brought to an abrupt halt before some pertinent reports and issues were not delivered and discussed respectively.

This was after one of the congress delegates, Denise Mnisi collapsed and died during the congress.
Sources within the public service workers’ union said it was agreed that the newly elected national executive committee (NCE) would call a one day congress so that they could finish off the business of the congress.  The insiders alleged that after the funeral of their member, they had been allegedly calling upon the NEC to call the one day congress, but in vain. They alleged that among the issues they had planned to discuss was the elections and Constitution. They claimed the Constitution was amended and implemented without being adopted by the general membership.

“There are things that went wrong with the elections and we believe the NEC is not calling the one day congress because they know that they are also a subject matter,” the sources alleged.
However, some members of the NEC said they believe that the people, who were talking about challenging the elections and Constitution, were still aggrieved for losing during the balloting process.

Death

They alleged that they had explained to their members that after the congress, which was unceremoniously closed because of the death of their member, they had a busy schedule as they had to prepare for activities, which include the Workers Day and strike actions among other things.
Meanwhile, NAPSAWU Secretary General Thulani Hlatshwako said they held a national general council (NGC) meeting last Friday at Caritas where the issue of the congress was addressed.

He said it was agreed that the one day Congress would be held on February 13, 2020 at Divine Healing Ministries International in Manzini.
Regarding the alleged move to challenge the elections and Constitution, the secretary general said these issues could only be challenged in court.
“In short, those who have problems with the elections and Constitution, they should go to court because the congress could not overrule its own decision,” the secretary general said.
He added that on Febr

uary 13, 2020, they would deliver reports, have discussions and take a mandate which they would be expected to carry out going forward.
