MBABANE – Kobe Ramokgadi Advanced Learning Academy dropped in their pass rate, sitting at 95 per cent in the 2019 Independent Examination Board (IEB) Examinations.

The IEB is an independent Assessment body offering certified assessments including the South African National Senior Certificate (NSC).
The school achieved a 97 per cent in 2018. This drop has been attributed to the fact that the school lost the director, Geoff Ramokgadi, at a very crucial time of the examination.

Kobe Academic Affairs Sabelo Dlamini said it was with no doubt that the departure of Geoff gave a shock to the entire school system. Dlamini thanked teachers and learners for rising above board and containing the situation.

He credited the 2019 NSC results to the hard work the stakeholders have put towards achieving a progressive academic fortune, adding that the IEB programme put dedication first, hard work and pursuit of success to all, be it a learner, parent, teachers and the school.

According to Dlamini, 64 learners sat for the examination, where three learners did not qualify to study in any institution in South Africa.
He said 36 learners qualified to study for a Bachelor’s Degree in any university in South Africa, 18 qualified to study for Diploma courses and seven qualified to study for Higher Certificate course in TVET colleges in South Africa.

“We are very much touched and concerned about those learners who did not qualify in these exams, it is our wish as a school to have all learners in our care progress in their academic life, we can only say to those who did not make it – it is not the end of the world, we have our hands open for a refocused attempt to these examinations,” stated Dlamini.

He highlighted that the school had all along been offering lessons in Grade VIII to 12 and as of this year (2020), they would offer the IEB Primary Schools Initiative (PSI) Programme from Grades I to VI, where learners would have an opportunity to get a good background of the IEB in an early stage.

Necessary

“We have seen it necessary to introduce the IEB programme at a very early stage in the education programme of learners, and we believe that this initiative will bring about a better change for parents and learners, hence they will achieve even better in their exit class – Grade 12.”
As the year begins, Dlamini invited parents to enrol with them. He said they were ready to work hard in achieving even better results in the coming years and beyond.

Meanwhile, he also attributed the dedication they had all shown to the works of the late Geoff, to whom he stated they owed deeply, in keeping the good legacy. “As a school we will rally behind the Ramokgadi family in pushing beyond limits, to have a very successful school for generations to come.”
He further mentioned that the academic office congratulates Noubissi Silienou Jisca from Cameroon for obtaining a distinction with 95 per cent in French Second Additional Language.

Dlamini said Jisca obtained qualifications that qualified her to study a Diploma course in any University or College in South Africa. He stated that the academic office believed that if the examinations were offered in French, Jisca would have obtained even better marks than what she got.
