MANZINI - It is now official, the two prominent businessmen who were locked up since last Friday in connection with the brutal murder of Manzini businessman Jomo Khumalo are facing five charges.

This publication has reliably gathered that the five charges which the two businessmen are facing are; a murder charge, three attempted murders and possession of arms and ammunitions.

The duo’s identities are known to this publication, but even though they have been officially arrested and charged, their names cannot be published at the moment because they are yet to appear in court. One of the businessmen is in the public transport industry, cross-border to be specific, while the other is in the car dealership business.

Confirmed

The latest developments were confirmed by Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati yesterday afternoon.
The murder charge which the two businessmen are facing is related to the brutal killing of Khumalo, who owned a fleet of mini-buses and kombis, which mainly operate between Eswatini and South Africa.

Khumalo was gunned down in what could be termed as a broad daylight public assassination last Wednesday near Manzini Traffic Circle, which is near Manzini Club. He died while medical practitioners at the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital were attending to the about seven bullets which were lodged his body.

On the other hand, the three attempted murder charges which the two prominent businessmen face are in connection with an alleged attempt to end the lives of Emaswati’s wife and two children. The trio was travelling with Khumalo when he was assassinated last Wednesday and one of the deceased person’s children, aged seven years old, was injured in the process.

Kill

The arms and ammunition charge is in regard to the guns and bullets which were used to kill the well-known Manzini businessman, who was also a socialite.
Furthermore, this publication has reliably gathered that the duo, who are currently locked in police holding cells at the Manzini Police Station, are due to make their first appearance at the Manzini Magistrate’s Court this morning.

It is worth noting that before the duo was locked up on Friday, they had been previously called in to assist the police with information regarding the public assassination of the Manzini businessman.
This publication also gathered that after their separate audience with the police, they were released, but their movements were closely monitored by the law enforcers, who are investigating the matter.

As a result of the tracking of their movements, they were eventually both apprehended in one of the businessmen’s homes.
According to sources, the businessman visited his alleged accomplice to update him about what transpired in his meeting with the investigating officers.

A well-placed source also revealed that even though the two prominent businessmen had been officially slapped with five charges, the police were still looking for more suspects who could be involved in the conspiracy to kill Khumalo.

“They include the actual shooters, among others,” the source said.
Buried
According to Khumalo’s family, the deceased person will be buried on Saturday morning at his home in Ngculwini after a vigil, which will be held on Friday.
This will follow a memorial service, which will be held at Divine Healing Ministries International Auditorium in Manzini on Friday afternoon.
