MUM STRANGULATES, DUMPS CHILD (3) IN PIT LATRINE

LOGOBA - In a shocking incident, a woman has admitted to killing her three-year-old daughter by strangulating her and further dumping the body in a pit latrine.

This shocking incident occurred at Logoba, near Matsapha in March, this year. The Matsapha police were found at the scene together with family members and the accused, *Sebe (22), was carrying her newborn, a one-month-old baby boy. Fire and Emergency Services officers were already inside the pit latrine trying to retrieve the remains of the child, who was allegedly dumped by her mother after her death. At around noon, the officers had already retrieved what looked like bones, which were stuffed in a black plastic bag and later handed over to Sebe for possible identification.

Vandalise

After two hours, the officers revealed that they would have to vandalise the building and the toilet seat, so that they could retrieve most of the remaining parts of the child’s body. Meanwhile, Sebe confessed to reporters that she had killed the baby and disposed of her body in the pit latrine after she faced difficulties in raising her. She also revealed that the child was malnourished as she did not have anything to feed her.  She added that she was unemployed and relied on friends who gave her cash once in a while. “I realised that my child was suffering and I could not do anything about it. I also had no idea where her father was as he was not at all supportive. I last saw the father when the baby was very young and as she grew, it dawned on me that I was making her suffer.

“She lost a lot of weight as there was no food and she only ate sweets and snacks, which I bought with the money my friends gave me. I found myself neglecting her needs including giving her food, which she mostly needed,” Sebe said. She said she made the decision to kill her child when she returned home intoxicated from a night out with friends. “I killed my child by strangulating her and later dumped her body inside the pit latrine. I did not tell anyone about the secret and went on with my life. “This was until one of my friends decided to contact my child’s family and revealed that the child was no longer seen with me,” Sebe, who at the time was crying hysterically, said.
