MALKERNS - Talk of a double murder. While he is out on bail for an alleged murder charge, an accused is on the run and wanted by the police for questioning on two other murder offences.

The fugitive is alleged to have brutally stabbed an ex-convict over 40 times, killing him in the process.
This was after he had allegedly killed another man outside a nearby popular bar.

Both murder incidents are said to have occurred on November 9, 2019 in two different places, one at a bar in Malkerns and the other at Ndimbaneni, at a drinking spot.

Enjoying

The murder suspect, Siboniso Hlatjwayo, who is currently out on bail, was enjoying himself together with friends who included one Sherma Zanando Sikhosana (22) of Malkerns Research on the night.

Information gathered from statements submitted in court is that before the murders occurred, Sikhosana was with his lover and was trying to reconcile with her after an argument, which allegedly involved another woman.

“I knelt down in a bid to apologise to my girlfriend and some people passed nasty remarks and shouted, enquiring if I was proposing marriage. Despite that I was angry, I tried to avoid them and ignored what they were saying, however, they continued shouting at me. I stood up and drew a knife, stabbing one in the process. My friend, Siboniso joined in and we both stabbed the man and continued assaulting him,” Sikhosana said in his statements.

He added that after the incident, they left the victim near the bar and both headed to a nearby popular drinking spot, as the bar had already been closed. He said upon arrival at the drinking spot, they found a lot of people drinking inside a house, where beer was being sold.

“Upon entry, my friend, Siboniso, grabbed cigarettes which were being sold and destroyed them. When he recognised a man, who was also an ex-convict, he got angry and asked him why he was always on his case when they were booked at Zakhele Remand Centre.

Stabbed

“He immediately drew the same knife he used to stab the first victim and stabbed the ex-convict in the head with it. He then asked the man, Ncamiso Motsa (ex-convict), where his knife was and when he told him it was at his house, he got infuriated and searched his pockets,” Sikhosana alleged in his statements.
He also alleged Hlatjwayo took out a knife from Motsa’s pockets and stabbed him all over the body with it.

Malkerns Police, led by one Constable Ginindza, arrived at the scene and both victims were rushed to Mankayane Government Hospital where they later died. Other shocked and traumatised witnesses who recorded statements revealed that Motsa was stabbed while they watched.

Meanwhile, Sikhosana escaped from the scene together with Hlatjwayo.
However, Sikhosana was later apprehended and he appeared in court on Tuesday for a confession before Magistrate Nxumalo, where he allegedly confessed to have taken part in the commission of both murder offences.

Charged

The accused was charged with the murder of Mlandvo Mavuso, which was committed at Nix Bar in Malkerns. He was further charged with another murder offence of Motsa, who was allegedly stabbed several times at Ndimbaneni, at a drinking spot. Sikhosana was remanded in custody until next week Wednesday pending his committal to the High Court.

Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati advised members of the public to be on the lookout for the accused, Hlatjwayo.

She also confirmed that Hlatjwayo was a suspect in the two murders and was currently out on bail for another murder offence.
She further advised people to contact the Malkerns Police Station or dial the toll free numbers 999/999 should they spot the fugitive.
In a similar incident, a man was arrested after he stabbed and killed two people at a popular bar situated in Matsapha.

The incident occurred in 2018.
Also, a man recently stabbed and killed another in a bar situated near Logoba after he had forcefully taken his beer.
The man is also on the run and wanted by the Matsapha police for questioning.
