MBABANE – The freedom of the two Mphaphu women is nothing to celebrate yet. This is because one of them (Hleziphi Mphaphu) will require serious medical attention in order for her condition to get better.

She is one of the two virgins of KaShewula, who had been confined in the house for seven years due to an alleged religious belief they had heeded to.
She is aged 33 while her sister Ncobile is 37.
When this reporter arrived together with the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office team on Monday, Hleziphi appeared to have a lighter complexion than her sister. She had covered her legs with a blanket.

Unlike her sister who seemed bubbly, Hleziphi was shy and kept on looking down throughout the interview.
It was later discovered that her feet had twisted from their normal position and, as a result, she was not able to walk properly.

As a result, the Emergency Medical Services staff had to put her on a stretcher and ferriy her to an ambulance which was outside the Mphaphu compound.
The sisters were taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Siteki, where they spent a day away from their house which they confined to.

During a telephone interview with the Hospital’s Administrator, Muzi Dlamini, he said the women were responding well to medical treatment.

Malnutrition

However, he pointed out that they had an issue of malnutrition which the medical staff was dealing with. The interview was done yesterday. “They are coming ok and will definitely rehabilitate. Nonetheless, the other one (Hleziphi) will require more medical attention,” he said.

He went on to state that she (Hleziphi) would need to go through physiotherapy to rectify her condition.
By the time this article was compiled, he explained that Ncobile had no complications and the medical staff was still examining and keeping tabs on the sisters.
