MBABANE – Four laptops worth E20 600 have been stolen at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT).

The laptops, whose brand was not verified, belonged to the institution and they were allegedly used while the new intake of students were being registered over the past week. The theft of the laptops occurred on September 30 while the equipment was kept at the institution’s Multi Purpose Hall (MPH) where the registration was conducted.

Sources close to the matter revealed that two days after the registration, the MPH was broken into at night and the laptops were stolen.

Consensus

However, there are suspicions that it was an inside job as there was allegedly no forced entry into the MPH.
Security personnel who were on duty on the night of the theft have been requested by the police and their employer to assist with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect(s).

However, no arrests have been made so far. The institution’s Communication Officer Phila Tsabedze stated that they had not yet been officially informed on the theft of the laptops but they got to hear about it informally.
Tsabedze said the institution, together with the police, were employing a different approach in dealing with the matter as none of the staff members was alerted on the matter.

“Having been informally alerted of the theft, there was police presence on Monday and Tuesday last week and the security personnel who were on duty on the night were requested to assist in the matter.
“The theft of the laptops came at a time when the institution was busy preparing for the graduation ceremony to be held soon and the focus is mainly on that,” Tsabedze said.

Confirmed

Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the figure and the value of the stolen laptops and said they were still investigating and no one had been arrested yet.

Worth noting is that around the same time last year, a Limkokwing University guard was cornered and forced to open a safe which had money amounting to E600 000 by six armed suspects who were later apprehended by the police.
