UNBEARABLE PAIN AFTER CIRCUMCISION GONE WRONG

MBABANE – While boys his age are playful and care-free, it is a different case for a 12-year-old boy, who has to be cautious to avoid being re-infected on his private part.

This follows that the Grade V pupil underwent a circumcision facilitated by a non-governmental organisation at one of the schools in the Hhohho Region. So serious is the infection that his mother reported that he had to return home last Friday after he got injured in his private parts while playing at school with his friends.

Consent

The minor’s mother, who will not be revealed to protect the child from potential victimisation, said the organisation circumcised her child with her consent last year during second term holidays. She claimed that after the circumcision, her child constantly complained of pain. The mother said it would often get better and he would attend school. However, she said when he was injured around his private parts, it would swell excessively and this affected him as he could not walk properly.  When asked to describe how the boy walked, the mother said he limped the same way he did when he was first circumcised. “When he gets hurt around the private parts, he does not even go to school the next day,” she said.

She went on to narrate that each time the boy complained of the pain on his genitals, she observed an unusual swelling. The mother claimed she had once approached a specialist in the circumcision field to enquire about what could have possibly happened to her child as his issue began after the circumcision. She alleged that the expert told her that the minor could have been affected during the circumcision procedure. The mother added that the specialist offered her some pills to help soothe the pain. Further, she stated that one day she got a call from the school and she was informed that he (minor) was hurt and could not walk. It was reported that it was after he had gotten injured in his private parts. The mother narrated that she took her son to the hospital.

Injured

She alleged that the hospital informed them that her son’s private parts had a severed vein. She further mentioned that the hospital transferred her son to another hospital and gave a directive that he should be monitored by a guardian.
