SHOW SOME RESPECT - MPS WARN ROBERT MAGONGO

LOBAMBA - Members of Parliament are running out of patience with their colleague, Motshane MP Robert Magongo.

The legislators made this blatantly clear when they said the MP should remember that they were honourable and that he should show some respect for the House.

This occurred late on Monday evening after MP Magongo tried to move a motion calling for the House to appoint a seven-member committee to investigate the reported malpractices engulfing the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) and consequently table a report within 30 days of passing the motion.
Unfortunately for MP Magongo, his seconder, Gege MP Musa Kunene had stepped out of the House and could not support him.

It was at this point that Magongo tried to amend his seconder, but Manzini South MP Thandi Nxumalo said it was too late for him to do that.
This seemed to irk MP Magongo who said MP Nxumalo had no right to say it was late in Parliament.

Speaker Petros Mavimbela called upon Magongo to withdraw unconditionally, but he first refused to withdraw his statement.
He was again on several occasions asked by Mavimbela to withdraw his statement, but instead Magongo said “I withdraw Mavimbela, soyajabula (are you happy),”.

This was when Kubutha MP Mlamuli Mabuza said Magongo should behave in an Honourable manner.
He said it was disturbing that in most instances Magongo would seemingly get away with saying things that we out of order.
“This must be done in a fair manner to all of us, because we must not be seen to be making a mockery of this Honourable House and its rules,” said Mabuza.

Motion

Interestingly, Mabuza had been expected to second MP Magongo on another motion which was calling for the Minister of Housing and Urban Development to suspend the valuation process currently underway at Ngwenya Town after allegations that the process was marred by irregularities and unfairness.

However, MP Mabuza took exception to his colleague’s behaviour highlighting that it was not the first time the House had been disrespected by Magongo.
Lobamba Lomdzala MP Marwick Khumalo also said MP Magongo should just withdraw his submission without adding any other words.
