SIGCAWENI – Police have shot and killed a murder suspect who was said to be resisting arrest.

The 32-year-old Bayanda Goloza Shongwe is said to have died from a single gunshot.
Shongwe is said to have first attempted to manhandle a police officer in a bid to prevaricate detention.

The gruesome incident happened at Sigcaweni under Siphofaneni constituency on Wednesday at around 4pm.
This comes shortly after the deceased together with two of his counterparts who are still at large, were alleged to have brutally murdered two community police from Tingulubeni, one of whom had his body parts dismembered.

Disappearance

The bone of contention was said to have been the disappearance of copper cables which allegedly belonged to the three.
The copper was said to have vanished from one of their hiding places where blankets and other belongings were also found.

They suspected that the members of the local community policing forum may have been behind the disappearance of their copper.
As such, it is believed that they launched a revenge attack, though police investigations are yet to confirm this theory.

They are alleged to have killed two community police before burning down three houses within the same community, which belonged the community police members.

Soon after the murders, the deceased (Bayanda) was tracked down to his parental home at Sigcaweni by the police who wanted him to assist in their investigations.
He, together with his two accomplices had been wanted by the police from the  Serious Crime Unit (Lukhozi) in collaboration with the Matsapha Police for a series of copper cable theft and the murder of the community police at Tingulubeni.

Police are said to have received a tip off on Shongwe’s whereabouts that he was seen roaming the streets of Sigcaweni and they promptly responded to the call by reporting to the deceased’s place of abode.
