Siteki – Relieved! That is definitely the feeling of families of the two teenagers, who went missing on March 31 this year.

This, after the two teenagers, who were Form IV pupils at Lubombo Central High School, were found alive in South Africa last Thursday.
They were found residing with unknown people at Mshadza community in White River area, near Nelspruit.

White River is described on the internet as ‘a small holiday and farming town situated just north of Mbombela (Nelspruit), which is known for producing tropical fruits, vegetables, flowers and timber’.
One of the teenagers is a female and the other is a male. They are both 16 years old and hail from Siteki.

 Trafficking

Their names have been withheld for ethical reasons since they could be victims of human trafficking.
The father of the girl, who was in the company of two local police officers, led South African police to the homesteads where the teenagers were residing.
“I had been communicating with my daughter since Monday after I called her while in Johannesburg. I begged her to come home and she agreed that I come fetch her,” said the father of the girl.

He then informed local police, who decided to accompany him to South Africa, since fetching the girl on his own was risky.
Upon arrival in Nelspruit, the father said they informed South African police about their mission.
He said the South African police agreed to assist them but first they called the girl on her number to confirm her exact location.
According to the father, his daughter was not pleased that he had involved the police.

“I had to calm her down by explaining to her that I couldn’t come to where she was alone, since I was travelling in an Eswatini registered vehicle and that could place my life at risk,” the father said.

Travelled

He said they then travelled to White River with the South African police, aboard a South African registered vehicle.
When they arrived at the address his daughter had given him, the father said they found her (missing teenage girl)  with a young boy, who is believed to be 19 years old.

He said his daughter was at first excited to see him but when she saw South African police, she quickly became annoyed.
“She told us that she no longer wanted to leave the place she was in but the South African police told her that she had no choice since she was residing in that country illegally,” the father of the girl said.
