MATSAPHA - A water-tanker from the Eswatini National Fire and Emergency Services could not be used for its intended purpose after it caught fire and was extensively burnt.

The tanker was engulfed in flames while it was being used to douse a fire at Lusekwaneni Royal Residence Farm adjacent to Phocweni Barracks yesterday at around 10am.

Information gathered was that the truck was burnt while the firefighters were trying to extinguish a fire at the farm which had spiralled out of control due to boisterous wind conditions.

According to the Public Relations Officer at Eswatini National Fire and Emergency Services, Hubert Shabangu, the truck was trapped in-between a donga, when the flames from the farm engulfed it.

Unfortunate

He said it was unfortunate that the inferno was blazing at an uncontrollable manner, at the time the truck was trapped in between the donga.
He said the fire then burnt the truck, and left extensive damage.

Shabungu said the water stored within the at the tanker, had already been used up while the firefighters were attempting to douse the flames.
He mentioned that during the incident, the pump attached to the tank was unable to draw any little water that may have remained.
